Laura Dern and Sam Rockwell revisit the '70s in the new animated series.
By Brandon Voss
1. Focused on the lower-middle-class Murphy family in the crazy 1970s, F Is for Family, which streams December 18 on Netflix, is based on comedian Bill Burr's edgy dad-rage standup and pokes fun at political correctness. No race is safe, and neither are queers. It's refreshing.
2. F is also for “fuck.” This family curses a lot, and cartoons who curse are just funny. I don't make the rules. Family Guy wishes it could be this raunchy. Think hairy cartoon balls.
3. Duh, Laura Dern is incredible in everything, and, as it turns out, so is her voice; she pulls no vocal punches as discontent mom Sue. Her sobbing uncontrollably with a Plast-a-ware bowl over her head is a season highlight.
4. Remember American Idol finalist Haley Reinhart? Love her! She makes her voice acting debut here as Bill, the family’s youngest son. Meanwhile, Justin Long’s awkward sexiness oozes through Kevin, the family's angry, drug-abusing teen.
5. Sam Rockwell channels Dazed and Confused Matthew McConaughey to voice the family's smarmy, hairy-chested neighbor, Victor, one of the hottest animated hunks you'll ever see. I mean, you know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Next, December 2015.
