The young pop singer will perform at Industry for Sherry Vine's birthday bash.

Thou shall now worship Athena! The emerging young pop diva has already conquered Broadway and performed with the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Ballet, but tonight, February 17, she'll grace the stage of Industry for Sherry Vine's birthday bash to perform “Lithium," her crowd-pumping debut dance track. We spoke to the New York native about her fitting name, her pop idols, and her connection to the gay community.
Next: Your name is perfect for a dance-pop diva! What's the story there?
Athena: My mom wanted to name me an uncommon feminine name that sounded pretty. The goddess Athena is wise, courageous, and a leader and protector — all qualities that she wanted for me. I got lucky.
Are you excited about your performance at Industry?
I am super excited to perform and to be a part of Sherry Vine's birthday celebration! She's an icon in the New York club scene. I hope that one day I have a single that she feels is worthy of her making a parody video for.
What do you think the gay boys are going to love about you?
I hope they will love my music and that it speaks to them. But if not, I hope they like my hot dancers! I've been so fortunate to grow up surrounded by the LGBT community and consider many of them my favorite people in the world. My designer, David Quinn, is gay and I love him and he supports me. I can trust him to always make me look my best.
Which dance or pop artists do you most admire?
I love Madonna, Britney, Cher, and Kylie Minogue because they are much more than just singers — they are entertainers. They really work hard to entertain their fans and they put on a multifaceted spectacular. That's what I want to do. In addition to music, I love costumes, dancing, theatrics, and special effects, and one day want to create an experience for people that is all my own.
When not focused on your music career, what normal girl stuff are you into?
Right now I'm really into watching makeup tutorials on Youtube and taking boxing classes. And getting lattes from Dunkin.
Next, February 2016.
